We Are Wired For Shoe Lust!

According to some really smart and scientific types of people, shoes have the ability to trigger dopamine bursts in women. There are even brain areas that are stimulated when we buy shoes. Scientists have proven that shoes make women happy and apparently we are wired for shoe lust! That’s great and all, but I’m wondering how many of my tax dollars went to these studies.
I get it, science. You want to find the reasons connecting our shoes to our happy juices. Once and for all, YOU. WANT. TO. KNOW. This is not a hard question. Just ask women – why do you love shoes? Here’s the answer – EVERY reason!
They are empowering. They are protective. They are stylish. They make me taller. They’re always changing. They make people look. They make us walk sexy (that is if you know how to walk with high heels). They bring to us a wonderful sex appeal assurance. They can tie every item of our outfit together. They work for us, not against us. They carry us. They are a great conversation starter. They…they’re SHOES!
Shoes are the ultimate feminine accessory. They give us the power to express the changes in our personalities with the shift of a slip or a lace. Case in point: There are few things more awesome in a woman’s life than the pre-date shoe selection process. We ask ourselves, “Does he deserve my stilettos today? No, he was boring for the last half hour. Maybe I will wear my knee highs just to tease him. Or maybe I bring it back to flats so he knows he has some catching up to do. Or maybe I’ll wear my booties just to see if he can stand looking me in the eye – or if he’s actually too short for me.”
Hey science, you’ve just solved two mysteries at once – 1. why women love shoes, and 2. why we are always late to dates. It’s definitely not to look good for the guy, lol!
Honestly, there is a power that comes from wearing the right kind of shoes. Knowing that no matter what happens, we as women can always control some aspect of our lives through our expression in footwear. We can have a completely hidden agenda in our shoes that no one but our best friends know about. These secrets make us comfortable. They allow us to interact with the world on our terms… With stilettos, running shoes or even barefoot if that is our wish.
The science behind shoes is not a science at all. It is an art, as all science really is. Figuring this out will probably take scientists another 1,000 years of meticulous research, surveying and planning. I’m all for it, especially if some of those scientists are women. You go girl! They tell us that STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) isn’t our thing, but if you actually put a pH.d. behind pumps, they’ll be eating their words.
In the meantime, I’ll be writing to my Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of the Economy, Science and Innovation, Dominique Anglade. Why? To lobby for tax cuts away from science programs that study the effects of shoes on women. Because…
… Obviously, I want a tax refund to go and buy more shoes!
I have my eyes on the leather trimmed cane slides from Australian label St. Agni. The bag is cute too…

  1. Thank you for this much needed explanation of one of the more perplexing mysteries of the female of the species. It is also a very funny and charming post! If I ever have a date again I shall make a point of checking to see if I have earned stilettos or if I was boring last time😉😄. Dx

    1. Hehe, glad I could help! With you I bet it would be stilettos or over the knee boots 7 days a week… Unless you take your date for a walk along the beach then it would be barefoot… xoxo

  2. Hehe! This was so funny, Dominique! 😄 And yes, shoes are just awesome! Just got myself a new pair of – and here it comes because they might not be your usual sexy style 😉 – Birckenstocks for walking a lot and I totally am in love with them and could write a love letter each day to the company and my shoes! 😂 they’re incredibly comfy and I know I can walk in them for hours. And nowadays they don’t look too bad either. 😉💕

    2. Haha… You should write such a love letter Sarah. I bet the Brand would love it and it could be so funny. You are right comfort is a priority for walking shoes and thankfully there are pretty nice options nowadays. 💕💕💕

  3. I like handbags… I love coats (in Qc it’s really all you see since were always covered up).
Because my princess feet are shaped like those of hobbits I have a hard time finding comfortable shoes. I’m always on the go and I want shoes that will keep up. I have sexy stilletto strappy sandals that I never wear because I always feel the heel will pop off. I don’t have sexy boots because they don’t fit my calves.
Of course I will turn and look at all the pretty shoes in a store window, but my reality reminds me they probably won’t fit. Shoe deception sucks lol

    1. Oh, I feel your deception. 😉 There are fortunately now very pretty flats… And you are right handbags and coats are two other of women’s best friends! Thanks so much for this lovely comment.

  4. Haha!!!! I fall into the comfy shoe category of women. I love my Birkenstocks…and Crocs for rainy days. High heels were something to be tolerated when I was young. I have really wide feet and the is NOTHING would ever look sexy on them. Think of Fred Flintstone’s feet and you will get the idea. Haha!

  6. Shoes!! I love shoes and handbags. Cannot have enough and they complete an outfit. I wear heels a lot but I love the comfy shoes on Friday. And boot season, I don’t think it can get any better. I’m reading this to my hubby. Now there is a scientific reason I need more shoes, it causes excessive happiness. Happy wife happy life lol 💗💗

  7. I love your posts They are so entertaining and soooo informational And you are very right We can communicate with our shoes. Shoes language, and the date issues so right. Just for you I went on a date from an online dating I was wearing stilettos and he showed up in runners. I never saw the guy again. No way. To me he put no effort to impress so there you go. It works for men too. Shoe tells all. Thanks again for the super post xoxo Cris

  8. I get the analogy of cooking with fresh ingredients, but can’t understand why women torture themselves with painful heels. 😬. I am short, and every salesman wants to stick me in towering heels! I really don’t think a man would find it sexy if I am falling down every two steps! But, maybe they would, since they wouldn’t have to chase me very far!!😂

    1. I agree with you No woman should feel oblige to wear heels if she does not want to, but just so you know there are some heels that are not torture. In fact, I have sneakers believe it or not that are less comfy then my block heel booties and sandals. 💙

  9. This was such a sweet read. I never really thought about shoes in such a way because I like to be barefoot all the time. However, after I landed my first job I did worry a lot about getting the perfect shoe. It had to be stylish and comfy. That is hard to come by.

Your blog is lovely! So stylish and elegant. Comme toi!
