3.2.1 Quote Me! Challenge – Chic

Rory from A Guy Called Bloke and K9 Doodlepip! has nominated me for this challenge. I’m glad he did as the topic of the day is what my blog is all about: Being chic!
Rory’s blog in his own words is about “Just another guy, another bloke and his dog journeying their way through life, creating and recreating their story in an entertaining fashion”. His posts are indeed very entertaining but he his far from being “just another guy”. I fact I see him more like an Indiana Jones of modern times. Apart from his personal journey he searches through the Web for the Graal, I mean interesting bloggers and topics and then presents them to us with his presence of mind through his quote challenges, Truly Inspired series and so much more. Curious by nature, this “dog lover” who has a good sense of humour and a kind soul takes us daily on a pleasant adventure. Reading him will definitely bring sunshine to your day and encourage you to keep connecting with other amazing bloggers such as him. By the way, the 3.2.1 Quote Me! Challenge was created by Rory himself!
So yes, I am thrilled to take part once again in this challenge. Firstly, here are the rules.

Today’s Topic: CHIC

This topic is music to my ears. Although to me being chic doesn’t necessarily mean buying expensive clothing. These days, there are no rules. What matters is the individual and personal style. Ralph Laurent describes personal style as “having the confidence to be who you are, not necessarily flamboyant or eccentric. It can be as simple as turning up a cuff or the contradiction of a weathered motorcycle jacket slung over an elegant evening dress. It’s taking a risk, trying something unexpected, and having fun with fashion, but always being true to yourself.”
Fashionwise, I see one big benefit of being authentic. You do not end up being a fashion victim in need of every trendy items for instant gratification. In fact, stylish people usually purchase with their wardrobe in mind. Any new acquisitions must match what they already have. They don’t follow a trend just because everyone is wearing it. They rely mostly on their creativity to style their clothes. It’s really the way they wear the pieces that makes them look pretty cool.
For me being chic can be described as wearing high-end, low-end, contemporary clothes mixed with vintage and always favouring socio-eco-friendly fashion and elegance. And most importantly, be chic to myself. So I try to have as much fun as possible everyday. Remember when you were a child and played with your mum’s clothing or when you tried to eat as many salty crackers in one minute without water –you never forget those moments, Eh? My point is don’t be afraid to be a kid again once in a while. Dare do things differently. Sure J. Crew shows nice ideas on how to style your clothing but if you don’t want to end up looking like everybody else, give your outfit your own personal touch. Add kindness and respect of others to this equation then you will not only be looked at but be memorable… For the right reasons!
Thank you Rory for giving me the opportunity to talk about what being chic represents to me. This was fun.

  1. Morning Dominique ..

Superb quotes. Rules are meant to be broken, they are but a mere guide line to life 🙂

Chic is different to every single person who allows themselves to be different to the throng – it’s the way you carry it off my Mother used to say and even now as a lady in her 80’s she still is very stylish, and as she would say “They don’t have to be expensive clothes darling, most of my come from the charity shops, but l know labels, and then l just use my own sense of panache!”

She is right, l worked in the fashion industry for many years and it’s not the clothes you wear that makes you, you – it’s you that makes you, you 🙂

    2. I wish you a safe trip and a wonderful time in Italy. Although I figure it won’t be very relaxing as you must have many relatives to visit over there. But eh, there is always shopping. I bet you will relax while doing that!

  2. Thanks so much for nominating me, Dominique! 😄 I love quotes and will try very hard to do this challenge. 😊 This time I just love the quote by Vivianne Westwood. And the one saying that we need to create a beautiful life inside than just on the outside. And I can totally identify with your definition of chic. I often think how people used to be more careful of their clothing in earlier times like my grandparents. They didn’t have much but what they had was quality stuff and well maintained to last long. So unlike how it is handled nowadays with the ever changing style dictates.
Hope you have/had? a wonderful time in Mexico! Xoxo ❤

    1. You are so right about how people used to be more careful of their clothing. Back then though the fashion industry was so much different. Vivianne Westwood was such a wonderful fashion designer. She has always been a big inspiration to me, both as a woman and designer. We had such an amazing time in Mexico. Can’t wait to tell you more about it. xoxo
