When Fashion and Nature Collide – The Power of Touch

Blank Instagram Post copy copy copy copy copy copy
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Keeping to the same analogy, a hug or a kiss may just be worth a thousand pushups. Yes, a good hug or a great kiss is just as much of a boon for our health as a day at the gym and the sauna.
What is it about the power of touch that keeps us craving it unconsciously, even without knowing its technical advantages? Here’s an even more important question, perhaps. How does the average person get more hugs and kisses in the course of everyday life?
Learning kiss and hug etiquette goes a long way in getting more of this vitally important connective touch. In our February edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide I look at some etiquette you can learn to make every day like Valentine’s Day!
Note: In case you’ve not seen these capsules before, the When Fashion and Nature Collide project is a monthly collaboration with two of my WP friends: Lisa of Lismore Paper and Darren of The Arty Plantsman. Artwork Copyright ©Fashioned by Nature.
This month’s edition is a little different then usual. My looks were inspired by our latest designs that are now available on our Fashioned by Nature shop. But as always with the spirit of protecting nature, I pulled together my outfits with clothing already available in my wardrobe.
Enjoy the issue!

Be Happy Sweetheart

People love to hug and kiss people who are already happy. When you ask for your hug or kiss, you should already be in a happy state of mind! This makes you more attractive, and the more attractive you are, the more hugs and kisses you get!

Of course, if you feel sad just be honest about it. Your true friends will gladly give you all the love and hugs that you need.

Give much love and hugs!

Love a Tree

Trees improve our quality of life! In so many ways, trees provide us with psychological and physical benefits that are unique to them. They add permanence and character to an area. They mitigate pollution and regulate our personal ecosystems. They give us peace, warmth and comfort. Show your gratefulness, protect the trees and the environment. (See my post Love a Tree, Wear a Tee for more reasons to love trees)

Set up the situation

Hugging and kissing is all about comfort. Give people an excuse to touch you! Welcome it with warmth. However, realize that not everyone is a fan of public displays of affection. Give people more privacy, and you may get more hugs and kisses than you can handle!

Learn the right hug and kiss for the occasion

Certain hugs and kisses are more intimate than others. You don’t want to run around kissing people on the lips if you are at a company party. (No, you can’t use Cupid’s arrow as an excuse! Valentine’s Day is over.) Intimacy comes from trust, and if people don’t know that you understand the right way to hug or kiss, they can’t trust you. Show them that you are aware of social norms, and you will certainly see your kiss count go up.

Be Funny!

Who says that you have to associate any certain emotion with a hug or a kiss? As long as the emotion is positive, you can hug or kiss for just about any reason! Look for ways to use humor to make people more comfortable. Once people are comfortable with your humor, use the power of touch to solidify the right level of intimacy in the situation.

Wear a huggable T-shirt!

You can bring together all of the tips above with the right T-shirt. A funny or sweet tee is sure to make you happy. It certainly sets up an icebreaker, so you’re setting up a positive situation. If you know the right hug/kiss for the situation and you have a funny shirt on top of that, your chances of hugs go sky high.
Choose from our wide variety of tees that are guaranteed to give you more huggability. Don’t limit your shirts to special occasions, however. These are T-Shirts that can be worn year round to bring the warmth and intimacy of Valentine’s Day to the entire year. Visit our shop on Threadless and see all our products. HERE

  5. Stellar winged logo. Love & hugs delivers wings. It’s true. Speaking of love, that red coat is striking. The camera angle on the shot of you through the window of reflection is a favorite of mine. Very artsy, but it’s also inclusive. It causes me, the viewer, to feel as if I am strolling by and spotting my friend at a coffee shop. I would’ve run in and said, “Dominique! It IS you.”. (hugs). You guys do such tremendous efforts. A collaboration well worth growing & nurturing. Love & hugs from me. -Alan

    1. What a beautiful comment. I’m so glad that the pic of me through the window of reflection spoke to you. I brought my friend to this place as I knew the big window would make a great shot. My friend Annie did a wonderful job. The red coat is one of my favorites. The Much Love and Hugs design is Lisa’s creation entirely. At first, I wasn’t sure about it as I thought it looked like a tattoo, but I was wrong. Once it was print on a t-shirt I felt in love with it. It has an edgy side to it that I like a lot. Thank you Alan for your positive feedback. I appreciate so much. xoxo

    1. Aww – thank you so much Alison. It makes me really happy to hear that you like the red coat as I have modified the original design myself. I do this kind of stuff on my clothing all the time. Hope the moving chaos is over and you are enjoying your new home. 💗

  6. I am so happy that this wonderful blogging collaboration has turned into this series and a shop! I tried on my tees this morning. Being a very large woman, I always wonder if things will fit so I ordered the very biggest size you offered. Lo and behold, they fit with room for shrinkage! The Powerful pouch arrived yesterday and is even nicer than I expected. Big and roomy! In the spirit of this very sweet post, I send hugs and love! 🤗 ❤️

  7. I loved this post Dominique, and working with you and Lisa.
You know how much I like hugs! I could hug you right now but you are 3000 miles away and my arms are not that long! Distance sucks.
Love to you dear lovely friend. xx

    1. I feel the same Darren. It is such a joy to be part of this team. The only down is the distance indeed. An ocean apart but on the same planet! Or as Lisa said it: but we share the same heart. Love you too dear friend. xoxo

  8. Touch is something special. When done from the heart, there’s always a connection made. ‘Give people more privacy, and you may get more hugs and kisses than you can handle!’ I found this sentence interesting but agree with it. Respect people’s privacy, respect their space and chances are you earn their respect and will open up to you. Lovely fashion shots in winter 🙂

  9. Such wonderful messages and pictures throughout this post, Dominique! Did you know, touch can even have healing powers? People with depression benefit greatly from signs of affection like hugs or just a small pet on the arm, or a cat that draws eights around your legs! Lol! 😄😻
And I love the idea of an etiquette for hugs and kisses – I’ve never thought about that, it seems to come natural to me but I can imagine a lot of people who could learn from this.
Your huggable tees are an eyecatcher for sure, as is that awesome red coat of yours! Sending lots of hugs and kisses! 😄 xoxo 💕

    1. Aww – Thank you so much Sarah. You are right, there are healing powers associated with touch, especially for kids and people with depression. But honestly, we all benefit from it. Is the EyeCatching tee your favorite? Just curious. Much love.
