When Fashion And Nature Collide – The Things That Give Us Wings

#CoverSeptemberIssue #Wings

For many of us (including me), finding the perfect outfit is like finding new wings. My entire attitude gets a lift. My brain starts coming up with ideas. I can walk into any room with a new type of confidence. I can imagine myself floating about in it sprinkling magic happy pixie dust on all I encounter for the next week or so even if I didn’t actually buy the outfit!
I have wondered where this association – fashion being a form of wings – comes from. The seeds planted from our childhood activities and memories grow roots that we can’t see. They are strong, though, and they bear fruit.
When the Orville brothers created their wings, their roots are what made them look to the sky in the first place! How many before them had seen birds and dismissed those birds as simply a beautiful aside, and not a design inspiration?
I try to find my fashion wings from the other things in my life that give me wings. When Fashion and Nature Collide kind of gives away what those inspirations are, so without further ado, this month’s fashion!
#Inspiration #Nature #PhotographyNote: In case you’ve not seen these capsules before, the When Fashion and Nature Collide project is a monthly collaboration with two of my WP friends: Lisa from Lismore Paper and Darren from The Arty Plantsman. Our team also create designs for our shop at Fashionedbynature.threadless.com Artwork Copyright ©Fashioned by Nature.
The third Wednesday of each month you can see outfits styled by me, and art from Lisa and Darren, that were inspired by Darren’s flower and critter pictures, and sometimes Lisa, myself or other photographers who collaborate with the team. With the spirit of protecting nature I pull together my outfits with clothing already available in my wardrobe. When purchases are to be made, these come from vintage boutiques and thrift stores or from socio-eco-friendly brands.
Enjoy the issue!#RupiKaur #Quote #CanadianPoet #OwlButterfly #Instagram#OwlButterfly #Fashion #TimetoFlyIMG_1136.JPG#ButterflyInspirationThe inspiration from the butterfly is endless. And the Owl butterfly is no exception if you  appreciate its subtle beauty. Beige is not plain and dull. This color is nearly infinite in its subtlety —from tan to pale cream. It can have warm yellow undertones, pink or even gray (Greige) undertones. Layering beige tones create an elegant and soft look. For this particular piece, I went with an arrangement of browns in a lovely Joseph Ribkoff overcoat and skirt set. A wooden bag (from ERA Vintage Wear) complete the look.

I grounded the blue blouse centerpiece with brown and white with a blue belt for a bit of flair. A keen eye will notice that Prada kitten heels are in the birdcage… Yes, I am wired for shoe lust! More about that HERE. And don’t forget to visit Lisa’s blog for a very special shoe treat.

The Longchamp purse has a classic design that never goes out of style. Is it not a funny looking orchid? I took this picture at the Botanical Garden during Darren’s last visit to Montreal. We knew right away that we would eventually use this flower for our collaborative project.

Pairing a dark rust leather skirt with a pinkish blouse that is draping loosely and gracefully gives me the same feeling of unification with just a little bit of fun with the green accent purse. Blank Instagram Post (65)#OrchidShades.JPG#LunchBreak
Thank you for letting me share my wings with you! We can never have too much inspiration in our lives, especially when we focus our minds on the things that give us real wings. Take the dive into your happier, more exciting muses and see where they take you. You will probably love the results, and even if you don’t, you will still love the outfit!

  3. Lovely! There is a parade of hues from fall throughout the post. Just in time for various points across the globe. Loved the wooden bag. So glad you pointed it out. One of my favorites is the shot of you leaning against the stone wall which blends the colors and shades highlighted. Subtle, but noticed. The punch of blue grabbed my eyes. Love blue!!! That orchid made me chuckle.
Its “eyebrows” stuck out nicely. Another outstanding collaboration from the trio. Love and hugs from me. -Alan

    1. Alan, your comments are always so kind and beautiful. I like the aesthetic of this shot too but it means a lot to me for other reason. It was taken in the village where I grew up. I used to climb that stone wall and play around that park with my brother when I was a kid. Our house was on the other side of that wall. Ooh, that Lady Slipper orchid is surely a wild plant. It has the posture of al dente spaghetti and its “eyebrows” omg so funny. Mother Nature has a great sense of humour. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit me. I have not been blogging much lately. Big projects ahead and health wise I haven’t been at my best for the past two months. My energy level is a little low. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon. Keep well. Sending a huge hug from Montreal.

    2. Oh, what a wall of memories for you. I can see why you chose it for more than the hues. As for your health. Although I don’t know the problem, I know Who does. Count on me to pray for your energy, your well-being, and for strength. Starting tonight. I’m so sorry you’re having issues. Gently petitioning for you from here.

  4. You write so well. It is always a joy to read about your inspiration for our collaborations. I have fond memories of the day you bought that wooden bag and only just got ahead of the competition😊.
The collages are gorgeous as always, as are you of course!
    Sending huge hugs. x

    1. Thanks Darren. That wooden bag is certainly original. Lol The beautiful Asian girl had great taste. She wanted all that I had put aside for myself. You have such a remarkable memory. Hugs and love my dear friend. Miss you!

    1. Thank you Brigid. Mother Nature does it well isn’t she? Your compliment touches me a lot because my interest in color is mainly associated with the fact that my son is color-blind. Since he was little, I’ve been reading about color and developing strategies to help him see and understand the nuances and emotions associated with certain colors. Thank you so much for stopping by my site.

  5. You’re right Dominique, beige is definitely not plain, just like every butterfly has its own unique form of beauty. This is such a gorgeous post and I loved each of the looks, all so different and with such a distinct style. The striking blue, that wild orchid … as usual you three have created a beautiful edition that combines so many colours and beautiful forms of nature. And you, as always, look gorgeous! Well done. Here’s to flying high with those wings. 💕🦋

    1. It is a nice coincidence that the critters and flowers selected for this month had similar color hues. But I’m happy that the result is harmonious and not redundant. Thank you Tracy for positively pointing it out. Have a fantastic Weekend.

    1. So nice of you to say this Otto. Thank you. I wanted to visit your blog and ask you what was the brand of the video camera that you recommended us? That was a long time ago, but I would like to find your post and reread it before making a decision on my purchase. Thanks in advance and Cheers!
